Floods are Ecuador's—and much of South America's—greatest natural disaster threat. Not earthquakes. Not volcanoes. Water.
The 1950 Cuenca flood destroyed 15 bridges in one night. The 2026 rainy season has already affected 40,000+ people nationwide, closed both major highways out of Cuenca, and flooded 15 neighborhoods within the city.
We just published a comprehensive guide on what you NEED to know:
⚠️ Why ridge roads collapse (and which ones are closed right now)
⚠️ Which Cuenca neighborhoods flood most (avoid ground-level here)
⚠️ The taxi crisis during rains (30+ minute waits, even with apps)
⚠️ Why you should bring quality footwear AND umbrellas from abroad
⚠️ How to survive water outages (18+ sectors affected March 13)
This isn't about scaring you—it's about preparing you.
