Celebrating 6 Years of Green Roof Classrooms in Egypt

On Monday, February 9th, Shagara proudly marked the 6th anniversary of its very first Green Roof Classroom in Qanater. The celebration was honored by the presence of H.E. Engineer Ayman Attia, Governor of Qalyubia, and H.E. Dag Juhlin-Dannfelt, Ambassador of Sweden to Cairo.

Launched in December 2019 with the support of the Swedish Business Community—most notably IKEA, which contributed furniture and carpentry—the project aims to alleviate overcrowding in Egyptian public school classrooms, while also promoting urban biodiversity and contributing to climate change mitigation and adaptation

Since its inauguration, the Green Roof Classroom has served an accumulated 920 students to date, offering them a healthier, greener, and more inspiring environment to learn and grow.

For six years, this initiative has shown how education and sustainability can work hand in hand—transforming challenges into opportunities for future generations.

Shagara is resuming its Job Readiness Initiative in collaboration with .architecture. The initiative provides a hands on experience to engineering and architecture students through giving them the opportunity to work with Shagara on the design and implementation of Shagara at School projects.
