‘Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful’

Designer William Morris was born in 1834. His sumptuous floral patterns were made into wallpapers, furnishings and textiles. The Arts and Crafts movement used natural motifs and traditional craftsmanship, and Morris was one of its leading exponents. The medieval stylings of his designs mirrored those seen in Pre-Raphaelite paintings – Morris was close friends with artist Edward Burne-Jones.
