OpenAI is an artificial intelligence research lab dedicated to promoting and developing friendly AI for the benefit of humanity. OpenAI was founded in 2015 by Elon Musk and Sam Altman. This startup received a $ 1 billion investment from Microsoft in 2019.

OpenAI was created in part out of the founders' fear of potential disaster as a result of the negligence and misuse of general-purpose AI. In the long term, the company pays special attention to fundamental advances in AI and its capabilities.

The company's intention to work on secure general artificial intelligence for the benefit of humanity is reflected in its intention to freely collaborate with other research organizations and individuals. Research and patents made by the company must remain open to the public unless it could adversely affect safety.

Here comes a significant debate that has erupted as a result of an artist winning a fine arts competition with "his" AI-generated artwork.

Few weeks ago, I shared Mid Journey, the “AI artist” with some arts I "created" using the engine. Just a few days ago, one artist utilized this AI engine to win a fine-arts competition with this work. Was it unethical? Was it moral? Was it cheating? Some critics compared it to "joining a marathon race and driving a Lamborghini to the finish line while the competitors are running bare foot," and the victory is a danger to all human artists.

When the artist submitted his piece named "Théâtre D'opéra Spatial" for the competition, the judges chose it right away, beating out 20 other artists in the "digitally manipulated photography" category to take first prize.

The creative community is outraged, and some are even arguing that AI-generated art should have its own category in future competitions.

The idea that AI-generated art should be deemed automated plagiarism is because it is based on millions of ingested artworks that are then mass-parroted has sparked deeper anxieties of decimating people's creative effort, blurring the limits of reality, or suffocating human creativity.
