Ethiopia has enjoyed zero‑tariff access to China for years — but from May 1, the same privilege extends to Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda, and more. The playing field is now level, and the competition is about to get real.

This shift doesn’t weaken Ethiopia — it challenges us to evolve. With China’s specialty coffee demand rising fast, the question is no longer about tariff access. It’s about quality, consistency, value‑addition, and brand power.
Ethiopia still holds the cultural edge. But our regional rivals are entering the market stronger than ever.
Can Ethiopia stay ahead in a China market that just opened to everyone?

Brazil’s authorization to export 17 agricultural products to Ethiopia marks a turning point in regional food security and trade cooperation. From beef and poultry to dairy and feed inputs, this partnership opens new channels for Ethiopia to diversify its food supply and modernize its livestock sector.
Beyond trade, Ethiopia stands to gain valuable insights from Brazil’s decades of experience in tropical livestock management and breeding efficiency — lessons that could help boost milk yields, improve meat quality, and strengthen the country’s agricultural backbone.

BREAKING
Red Sea Attacks Resume, Raising Fresh Fears for Global Coffee Trade

Houthi forces have announced the resumption of attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea, reigniting instability along one of the world’s most vital shipping lanes. The Red Sea corridor carries roughly 12–15% of global maritime trade, and renewed hostilities are already prompting major carriers to divert ships around the Cape of Good Hope, a detour that adds up to two weeks to transit times and significantly increases freight and insurance costs.

Ethiopia’s journey toward modern development finance began with a bold idea — empowering agriculture through institutional support.

GLOBAL COFFEE PRICES TUMBLE AS BRAZIL PREPARES FOR A RECORD HARVEST ☕📉

Coffee markets are falling sharply as Brazil — the world’s largest producer — gears up for a record‑breaking 2026 harvest.
New data from Conab shows total production rising 17.2% to 66.2 million bags, with Arabica alone jumping 23.2% to 44.1 million bags.
This massive supply wave, expected to hit global markets starting April, is already dragging prices to multi‑month lows. Arabica futures dropped nearly 3% in a single session, while robusta slid to its weakest level in over six months.

Analysts point to:
Improved weather in Minas Gerais | Higher yields across key regions A strong recovery cycle

Together, these factors are reshaping global supply expectations — and accelerating the price decline.
For producing countries like Ethiopia, the impact could be significant as competition intensifies and export earnings come under pressure.
