The cult favorite Zadie jumpsuit, my honest review…

Last month was the first month of my new sewing club and we chose to make the Zadie from Paper Theory. Honestly, I hadn’t really thought of making it before but I’m always down to try new patterns and learn new techniques.

Quick review: I’d make it again, but only as a top.

Long review: I decided to make a size 12. My measurements are bust - 38” waist - 30” hips - 40”
I should’ve followed the advice of others who already made this pattern and sized down by at least one size maybe even two.

This pattern includes a lot of ease. That’s nice for making a garment comfy but not my fit preference. The top fits well but the bottom half ended up a bit saggy.

Pattern adjustments: I made a toile prior to making my linen version. Based on the mock-up I reduced the bodice length by 1” and raised the rise by 1”. I also took in the side seams by at least an 1” at the waist and blended it back into the side seam. I ended up making this change after sewing my linen version so that’s why I’m not exactly sure how much I took in.

What I’d do different next time: I’d cut my pants at a smaller size. I’d also raise the crotch higher because it sits pretty low. On my short legs it looks a bit disproportionate. I’m happy with how the top fits and wouldn’t change it.

What this pattern does well: The instructions are well written and clear. I love how the wrap top doesn’t gape and fits comfortably.

Will I make another one? I don’t think I’ll make the jumpsuit again but I’d like to make a wrap top with this pattern.

Have you made the Zadie? What did you think?

If you’ve been around for a minute you probably know I released a beginner sewing course last month. I poured my heart into it and I’m so proud of it! But maybe you’re not so convinced yet.

Here are some questions I’ve received and wanted to answer them for you.

Learning to sew has been the greatest gift for me. It’s expanded my creativity, let me start my own business, and taught me how to be more patient and enjoy the process of making.

This course is for anyone who wants to jumpstart their sewing journey and begin sewing asap. There are tons of ways you can learn to sew from free online resources to in-person classes. A lot of my sewing knowledge comes from a sewing class I took every Friday afternoon while I was in high school. But not everyone has access to a physical sewing class and sometimes it can be overwhelming to learn a new skill without guidance. That’s why I made this course.

And one of the coolest parts of the course is that it’s available to you FOREVER including any updates. For example, this week I’m adding a 2nd final project to the course that everyone part of the course will have access to.

Thanks for sewing with me 🫶!

French toast, fabric shopping, and a flat white. What do they all have to do with each other besides starting with the same letter? Nothing much, they’re just some of my favorite things 💕

I picked up fabric for my jumpsuit that I’m sewing for the first ever Sew Club project. You can join the group by following the link in my bio 😉

The Florence dress was thoroughly tested by a beautiful and talented group of sewers. Here a a few pics from that group 🤍

When it comes to choosing a sewing pattern, I love to see the pattern on different people to decide if it is the right kind of pattern for me. I hope all of these stunning Florence dresses inspire you and get you excited for the launch this Friday!

Florence will come in 14 sizes and have 3 bodice cup options. It has a detailed instruction guide with diagrams for EVERY 👏 SINGLE 👏 STEP 👏

There’s even a guide on how to blend between sizes, add length, and reduce the hip curve to make this pattern the perfect custom fit dress for you!

I am in LOVE with this dress pattern and wear my Florence dress all the time. I can’t wait for Friday 😁
