First of all, one month after our first album « Convergences » has been released, we feel there is a real dynamic, people being very enthusiastic about it, which makes us want to go further into the adventure. We think that projects which bring people together are the most creative and rewarding.
Before we present Amasia Records echo system, you must be acquainted with its story, art being the only visible side of a human adventure initiated by two friends.
Back to 2010, Samson Gayaud (aka Zedo, member of the group R.A.S.) releases his album: Longueurs d'Ombre. To have it played on stage, he is helped by Synes, a DJ he met previously through a common friend DJ Tinx10.
The feeling is growing, and new ideas begins to come. One in particular: adding live music to the conventional pair rap/DJ, so Zedo plays on his electronic drums and Synes plays on bass guitar, keyboard and scratch. They start sessions just for fun, but they feel there must be more to it than a passing fancy. At the same time, Zedo prepares his album: Le Géranium, which is completely mixed and mastered by Synes who is more and more interested in sound engineering.
At that very moment, we did not realize that we were laying out the basis of our future project.
A few months later, Zeta project is born. A more complete project with a third associate: DJ Deekay (The official R.A.S DJ) where live played instrumental and rap leads. The result is worthwhile, Zedo plays on drums but with an MPC (pads), Synes plays on keyboard, bass guitar, scratches and samples on MPC, then Deekay on scratches and MPC. Zeta gradually frees itself from rap and becomes an instrumental project only. The purpose is to make Hip- hop beats live in front of the audience, without any computerized loop.
Performances on stage follows, but difficulties increase, technics become more and more complex and limits are felt. We lack the rapper's voice, and besides we all have jobs and families for some of us, the time misses. At the same time, each of us plays music on his side, and Zedo (as a rapper) alias Shimshon (as a beatmaker) prepares a series of beats for a project. Synes writes music in his own, in a more electronic and abstract style.
The Zeta group stands back in 2017, to turn into another project they are thinking about: to set up a label (Amasia Records) and a music group (Amasia).
Amasia might be a « supercontinent » in a more or less distant future from merging the Asian and North American plates. A perfect name which suits our project. It gets together all the projects and knowhow we have acquired so far. Rap, music on stage or in studio, like wild torrents which join, become rivers, and finally get to the same place. Our wish was to have a coherent, complete and well-balanced project, we think we have achieved our aim.
The idea: producing albums with artists from different countries on each track.
Every day we discover and listen to talented rappers that we contact through the internet. We have forwarded a private playlist with roughly 70 beats of different styles which we particularly affectionate. Dozens of rappers have replied and we have been impressed by the positive opinion they have about our project.
Our instrumentals were well received at once. More and more creativity, meeting and getting to know other artists is most rewarding.
As we work with rappers from all over the world, our project means to be international, therefore English-speaking, but the artists are invited to rap in their favorite language.
Generally speaking, the rappers work in two manners, from a distance: they either monetize their work or exchange it for an exclusive beat they can use for a personal project. As we wish to enlarge our art to other people, and not to stay cut off from the world, we decide to produce the artists whose work we appreciate and who are interested in the project.
A text, just like a beat, is valuable. So we propose this exchange to the artists who take part in an Amasia piece. We produce an instrumental in exchange for their work. Then the exchange is unidirectional and is concentrated more in the artistic side than on business. As a result, several pieces will shortly be issued on rappers different projects, some of them being on Amasia Records label.
At the beginning of November 2017, we had the first ten titles ready to be mixed only five months after the first mails. American, French, Belgian and Finnish rappers bring life to our beats and take part in the adventure which is gradually built up.
The beats on this album are produced by Shimshon entirely mixed and mastered by Synes who has also come to make a few scratches. The beats carried out by Synes will be present on the future Amasia albums. The heart of the project is self-sufficient, which at the same time, allows us to remain efficient and consistent from an artistic point of view.
That is how « Convergences » the Amasia first album was released on all the net platforms (BandCamp, Spotify, Deezer and so on), on April 12th 2018, the label Amasia Records being created on this occasion.
Presently, we are finalizing the second album. You will soon get information about it. Parallel to this work in studio, we are developing the part on stage and video clips. In the same spirit as our previous project Zeta, the idea is to put forward a show live to present Amasia pieces. This show live will be as a mix and as an MPC free style at the same time, played together with the drums (by Shimshon) and the samples (by Synes). According to the towns where we shall play, the rappers, part of the project, will be invited to play on the stage with us. They will also be able to present their own projects according to our exchange agreement.
We shall also play original pieces with other unexpected guests. More information soon. Moreover, as we have directed Zedo's clips a few years ago, we also want to direct clips for Amasia pieces. The first one will be released very soon. It will feature the rappers from Lyon “Le Myster” and “Héron Pilon” on a piece of the second album. As a conclusion, our purpose is not to make profit, so our creativity can fully express itself. The less we are under financial pressure, the more we shall be efficient and pertinent.
