The whole 'Spirals' project is an ode to my trip to Morocco with Frànçois Atlas last year, and the special, bewitching power of traditional Gnawa music we witnessed there - it gathers tracks that were all largely improvised and initiated in Essaouira as some kinda sonic travel diary, that I deliberately chose to keep in their raw, free form as a tribute to my first impressions of trance...
