This week is Myopia Awareness week.
Myopia is the scientific term for being shortsighed.
It used to be the case that we would prescribe standard spectacles for children who were shortsighted and say that it will just increase as they get older.
However, in the recent years research has shown it can be slowed down (to give a potentially lower prescription when they finish growing) by using specialist lenses (spectacle or Contact Lenses).
It is important to detect Myopia as early as possible and to keep up to date with children's eye examinations.
