Important Information for Tenants! The government has just extended the ban on evictions being carried out for a further 6 weeks from 11th January 2021. This means that there will be almost no evictions until at least 22nd February 2021. Whilst this is clearly good news and makes a lot of sense in light of the new lockdown restrictions, there is nothing to stop landlords serving notices on tenants saying they must vacate their property. We have already seen a definite shift in the behaviours of some landlords after the stay on possession proceedings came to an end at the start of last week. Landlords are beginning to put significantly more pressure on tenants and are using the fact that courts are now progressing claims to try to make tenants do what the landlords want. Remember, landlords can only regain possession of their property either by voluntary surrender of possession by a tenant, or the ex*****on of a warrant for eviction. Anything else the landlord or agent might tell you about you having to be out is wrong. It's as simple as that.
