Read Manchester
Read Manchester is a community-driven campaign to inspire children, young people and their families to fall in love with reading.

The National Literacy Trust's latest research shows that reading is most strongly embedded in children and young people’s lives when it is relevant, meaningful and supported by people around them. Our See Myself in Books campaign does just that.
It helps make reading feel relevant by reflecting the different cultures and backgrounds across the city through collections of diverse books and a festival which gives hundreds of pupils the chance to meet diverse authors.

It was lovely to meet lots of local families during the incredible Baby Week this week.
We gifted lots of books and resources to help little ones on their journey to learn new words and communication skills, helping to build a love of stories from the start. 👶 ✨

A huge thank you to our wonderful Literacy Champion, Maheshi, from The University of Manchester, who represented us at the Universally Manchester Festival community day on Saturday!
Her stall featured information about philosopher 'Susan Stebbing’ and her critical thinking aspects. Maheshi used this opportunity to introduce more families to the National Year of Reading, sharing information about 'Going All In' on your passions, and gifting books to lots of children.
It was amazing to see so many families stopping by to find out more. One family told us, "We have a family of bookworms and it's hard to keep up with them all, so this is much appreciated!" 📔🪱
Thank you Maheshi for helping to spread the joy of storytelling in Manchester! 💜
