has never been one to follow tradition. From leaving her banking career to become a winemaker, to reshaping Châteauneuf-du-Pape with bold single-vineyard and varietal wines, she’s built a reputation as one of the region’s most exciting voices.
For Ferrando, Châteauneuf-du-Pape is about freedom. With 13 permitted grape varieties and five distinct soils, the appellation offers countless possibilities. “The only limit is to respect the appellation,” she says, and she has embraced that philosophy with energy and vision.
Her journey hasn’t been without risk. Bottling single-vineyard cuvées, producing rare 100% Clairette and Cinsault wines, and eventually rebranding everything under Famille Isabel Ferrando, she has continually challenged expectations. Few names in wine carry the weight of . With roots stretching back to 1385, the family has shaped Italian winemaking for over six centuries – from Chianti to the birth of the Super Tuscan movement.
Now, as the new vintage of Solaia is released, we caught up with Albiera Antinori – the 26th-generation CEO and first woman to lead her family’s historic estate. Despite presiding over nearly 3,000 hectares of vineyards across the globe, Albiera remains grounded, recalling childhood harvests at Tignanello and a path into wine that began almost by chance.
Since taking the reins, she’s overseen the creation of 12 wineries, worked alongside her sisters and father, and continued the family’s tradition of balancing innovation with heritage. For Albiera, being an Antinori means carrying forward not only a legacy, but a responsibility: to the land, to their people, and above all, to quality.
