This case really shows the importance of treating at the right time ๐.
There isnโt one rule for everyone, but sometimes waiting until the early teens can actually create more problems.
This young patient presented with a reverse overjet. Issues like this can restrict maxillary growth, retrocline the upper incisors (causing crowding and eruption issues), and even push the lowers more buccally leading to gum recession.
The first step is always to check if itโs dental or skeletal. Here we identified an RCPโICP slide (1st photo), so the Class III wasnโt quite as bad as it first appeared. By eliminating the false bite, we reduce the risk of future TMJ issues and improve intercuspation ๐.
Our aims were to develop the arches to create space and improve alignment, avoiding potential extractions (contraindicated in a Class III case) using the CAP Phase 1 protocols with Invisalign First and Class III elastics.
A positive overjet was achieved just over 6 months โจ. This might be the only treatment she will hopefully ever need but if later treatment is required, it will be short and easy!
