The internal structure of a Huntsman garment, up to 80 hours of handwork and over 6,000 hand stitches, will soon be concealed by the lining; hidden from view, yet entirely responsible for the garment's form. Head Cutter Campbell Carey conducts a baste fitting, the first of three appointments in the bespoke process. The baste is a working garment; a cloth skeleton that allows the cutter to study the form, make precise adjustments, and refine the pattern to the exact posture of the individual. Though it may bear little resemblance to the finished garment, it is perhaps the most essential stage of all, a process of fine-tuning in the pursuit of a fit that is truly, completely personal.
