Super Mario Bros. was designed by the legendary Shigeru Miyamoto and helped establish Nintendo as a global gaming powerhouse.

The game originally launched in Japan as the final hurrah for the Famicom before the Disk System took over.

It sold over 40 million copies, making it the best-selling video game of its time until Wii Sports dethroned it.

The first level, World 1-1, is still studied by game designers today for its perfect introduction to game mechanics without using text.
