Today is World Patient Safety Day. WHO known as the World Health Organisation, call on parents, caregivers, health practitioners, health care leaders, educators and communities, to unite in action to prevent avoidable harm in paediatric care and to build a safer, healthier future for every child, as part of the global effort.

This week in James Cook University Hospital, the paediatric departments have been involved in bringing awareness to patient safety specifically around safe care for every newborn and child. With lots of fun activities for the children to participate in. Yesterday our little Infection Control inspectors from the wards set off to check our staff are bare below the elbow, giving stickers and certificates to all who past their inspection, some children were able to participate in a competition to design our very own safety superhero! 🦸‍♂️

Throughout today online we will be looking at keeping children safe around the home, we will bring information from The Lullaby Trust on safe sleeping, Child Accident Prevention Trust on safety around medication and poisons and what to look out for if you suspect sepsis and much more.
