It’s hard to believe we only have one more day of camp. Time flies when everyone is having so much fun.
The contributions that people make to ensure a great camp for the athletes are always appreciated but sometimes, some individuals go above and beyond. When we arrived at the curing rink today, Youth Leader Njål Kongssund, and Danish team coach Ulrik Schmidt, were preparing the ice for us. A big thanks from the whole camp.
Our class session today was all about planning. Teams determined their playing order and started to work on their season plans. Not a simple task when your goal is to get to the Youth Olympic Games.
The weather did not cooperate with our plans to hike to the Olympic ski jump but the weather looks better tomorrow so we can only hope for the best. Curling is an indoor sport so there was no problem getting on the ice twice today. The first session was all about practicing what’s been learned and the team coaches ran the athletes through multiple drills.
The second session was a game where teams were comprised of two players from one nation and two from another. What a great way to make new friends and enjoy some of the Spirit of Curling. During the session, a local videographer came by to work on a camp video and to take the camp photo (but you will have to wait until tomorrow’s post to see that photo).
Although dinner is usually non-eventful (no food fights… yet), it sure wasn’t tonight. WCF Vice President Bent Ramsfjell and his teammate Pål Trulsen joined the camp for a meal and to show their gold medal from the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. Just a little more inspiration for the campers.
One more sleep, one more day of camp.
