A major overnight operation has successfully moved the first transformer for the Creag Dhubh substation, an important step forward for the project.

We know this work can cause disruption, so we’d like to thank local communities and road users for their patience while this carefully planned movement took place. The convoy travelled more than 30 miles overnight with support from Police Scotland to keep everything moving safely.

Further movements are planned between now and July 7 as we progress this important project to strengthen the network and support renewable energy growth in Argyll.

⚡ What happens when young people get hands-on with science?

Over the past few months, our circuits and electronics workshop has been delivered in partnership with Aberdeen Science Centre, Dundee Science Centre and Science Skills Academy to more than 1,000 pupils across the region helping them explore how electricity works through hands-on learning.

As part of this, our team, recently spent time at Aberdeen Science Centre supporting the children as they built their own circuits and experimented with electricity. They weren’t just listening, they were trying things out, testing ideas, and seeing what worked (and what didn’t).

It helps to bring science to life in a real way, showing how electricity powers the everyday things they use. For many, it was an experience they wouldn’t normally get in the classroom. And it’s that early exposure that can spark curiosity, build confidence, and open the door to future careers.

We’ve reached an key milestone on our Creag Dhubh substation project by completing the first stage in the delivery of two Super Grid Transformers.

The first unit has been successfully transported from Clydebank to Stuckgowan, with the next overnight move to Dalmally now scheduled for Tuesday 16 June. This will see a temporary overnight road closure between Crianlarich and Tyndrum from 7pm on 16 June to 6am the following day.

Moves of this scale require close coordination and careful planning, with traffic management in place to keep both road users and delivery teams safe.

Thank you to local communities and partners for their continued support as we deliver infrastructure that will strengthen the network and enable renewable energy growth.

📸 We have some new images showing how the Caledonian Hotel in Stornoway will look once its refurbishment is complete.

🔹 A well-known landmark overlooking the harbour, the building has been unused for more than a decade

🔹 Now, through our Lewis Hub project, it’s being brought back into use as part of our wider investment in the Western Isles

🔹In the short term, it will provide accommodation for workers supporting construction

🔹Over the longer term, it’s planned to reopen to the public—supporting jobs and the local economy

This is one of the ways we’re supporting communities alongside delivering the Lewis Hub.

⚡️Have you ever wondered how renewable power gets from where it’s generated to your home?

💡 The electricity grid is like a motorway system for energy - carrying power from wind farms, solar panels, hydro stations, and more straight to your community.

☕️ So next time you pop the kettle on, think about the incredible journey that energy’s taken to get there.
