What an utterly lovely weekend at the Stoke Row Steam Rally!

It really does remind you what a wonderful world it can be when you’re surrounded by lovely people, all working together to achieve the same thing. From the magnificent steam engines and classic vehicles to the friendly faces and community spirit, it was everything a traditional English summer show should be. The Forget Me Not Reading Rescuers had a blast !!

A huge thank you to everyone who came to see us. Stoke Row Steam Rally truly is a good old-fashioned English summertime show at its very best.

🐾 Trust Matters in Rescue 🐾

One of the hardest things in rescue is placing your trust in other people. But the reality is that if you cannot trust the people caring for your dogs, you cannot rescue.

Zena was found dumped in Brixton when she was still just a baby. At only 8 months old, she had already experienced neglect and uncertainty when she should have been learning about love, safety and family.

Today, Zena is thriving.

By day, she enjoys life in a free-running kennel environment, playing with her canine friends and learning how to simply be a dog. By night, she’s so loved by the kennel team that she often ends up sleeping on the owner’s sofa! ❤️

Whilst we do pay for kennel space, Zena has become much more than a kennel dog. She is part of their family.

During her time there, she has learned so much:
🐾 How to live happily alongside other dogs
🐾 How to make friends
🐾 How to relax and enjoy life
🐾 How to trust people again

This year we have worked incredibly hard to improve opportunities for our kennel dogs. We looked carefully, said no when things didn’t feel right, and waited until we found people we genuinely believed would provide exceptional care.

Last year, Kiera, Benji and Nala were all waiting for their special people. We held our nerve. We waited and wished !! Eventually they came. The moment when magic happens and their people find them.

Now, we think we may have found Zena’s exceptional family.

We’re not counting our chickens just yet, but we’re hopeful. Very hopeful. ❤️

Whatever happens next, we want to say a huge thank you to the wonderful team at Cobham Kennels. They have given our dogs freedom, patience, kindness and love whilst we continue searching for the families they deserve.

Dog rescue is never just about one person or one organisation. It is a network of people working together, each playing a part in changing a dog’s future.

And for Zena, that network has meant everything.
