LF/ RH limb lameness, lacking in impulsion. Unwillingness to maintain canter on the right hind. Frequent episodes of disuniting.

After imaging RH stifle was blocked out and a significant improvement was noted. X-ray/ ultrasound were limited in finding so an orthoscopy was performed. Defective stifle cartilage was diagnosed - developmental condition of the cartilage., RS worse that LS.

Diary of Miss Geronimo the Barefoot Ex Race Horse (Part 2) A huge thank you to my coach Wiola, Aspire Equestrian. I’m sure we wouldn’t have been able to get as far without her fantastic rehabilitation and training plan. Including with the help of Lucy, Hoofology transitioning to barefoot. I also now ride Hope in a Quantum bridle which again has made a noticeable difference. Wiola’s style of training is very much centred around the health and well being of the horse and working together as a true partnership. Rather than the old school mentality of horse must obey in order to perform to the rider’s ego. Sadly of which is still very much happening but I really do hope will fade out in time. To get the best from my horse, I want her to enjoy her life and being with me. After all isn’t the reason we do this for the love of horses? I renamed Hope because I just hoped she’d be able to do something, even more so after discovering the SI disease, kissing spine, and most recently diagnosis of OA in the neck, which was treated 2 weeks prior to this reel. After a long emotional, pain staking but rewarding journey this really was a momentous event. To me it felt as great managing to ride a circle as doing a BE ODE! I am sure that there are many more riders and owners who are really struggling with their ex race horses. Especially in light of all the evidence proving that due to the nature of racing these horses are no doubt going to have similar problems. My advice is to please take the time to listen to your horse, find the cause of any issues, educate yourself, be prepared to rehabilitate as well as re train, it’s not a quick fix. LOAN HOME 🏡 WANTED for Leo - A UNIQUE TRAINING OPPORTUNITY This is a very difficult decision which I’m making with Leo’s well-being in mind. I’m seeking a grass livery or an alternative 24/7 out living arrangement (track livery at home, equicentral or similar) where he can live with other barefoot companion(s). Leo is a 14.3hh , 18 years old gelding who can be a companion to youngster(s) and older horses alike, have been in same s*x and mixed herds before, currently babysitting a yearling. In an ideal situation I’d love him to go to a local home (Henley on Thames) with someone who’d love to learn more about Liberty training, groundwork for athletic development & soundness and who is keen on education focused on assertive leadership & connection. I’d be willing to offer an equivalent of £300/training a month as well as ongoing support to the right person who would like to dedicate 5-6 hours a month to learning. I’d consider sending Leo further away for the right home/other suitable arrangements. I’d also consider him staying at current location (Marlow) if an interested person could help with facilitating best management for Leo (early turn out, late bring in; stabled overnight).
