COUNTERFEIT / NON COMPLIANT FUSES

Four counterfeit fuses discovered this week across two businesses. Both of these businesses were in the beauty industry.
The products were
1) A manicure desk with dust extraction. Purchased from a former large high street store that have now taken the business online.
2) A double pot wax heater. Purchased direct from a leading name in the industry via the companies website.
3) A HIFU machine. Purchased direct from the companies website.
4) A UV steriliser. Purchased from an online marketplace.

A few recent discoveries.

1) Remember to remove the cardboard wiring diagram from the plug, before using your new purchase. It’s a nice bit of tinder should your appliance develop a fault and begin to over heat. It can also stop the plug being fully inserted into the socket.

2) The outer insulation was split close to the plug on this hairdryer. A new plug fitted and the hairdryer was back in service.

3) The consequence of an overloaded extension lead. Unable to separate the plug from the socket, the duty holder had to book their electrician to replace the socket.

4) Rodent damage on this fridge cable. Luckily close enough to the plug that the damaged part could be removed and a new plug fitted keeping the fridge in service.
