A digital-only world is a world of exclusion for those with literacy difficulties.

Lynn’s story from Cosmic, a National Digital Inclusion Network hub in Cornwall, highlights a critical reality: for many, an app or a website can never replace the personal touch of a trusted advisor. From managing prescriptions to securing housing, Lynn relies on the human-first support of her local library and family to stay connected. Local authorities have a unique role in preserving these social anchors and making services accessible to everyone, regardless of their reading or writing skills. 📖 🏛️

Our research with Sport England reveals that digital access and online confidence are now significant gatekeepers to physical activity:

67% of people use digital tools to find information about sport and physical activity
52% use digital tools to book sport and physical activity
