Following NO MORE Global Summit on Tech-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence, we’re reflecting on how technology is changing abuse.

It’s not just AI and deepfakes. Tech can be used to harm in many ways:
• Monitoring phones, messages, and location
• Using smart home devices (lights, cameras, speakers) to control or intimidate
• Tracking movements through apps or GPS
• Harassing, threatening, or sharing images online

“It’s fake” or “it’s just online” doesn’t mean no harm.
Tech abuse can cause fear, loss of control, isolation, and serious impacts on safety and wellbeing.

Right now, systems are struggling:
• Content spreads faster than it’s removed
• Reporting is slow and inconsistent
• Support services are under pressure

Accountability must shift. Survivors cannot carry this alone. Platforms, governments, and tech companies must act.
Technology is not neutral. The way it’s designed shapes behaviour and can enable harm.

We also need to go further:
✔ Safer digital spaces
✔ Better education and early intervention
✔ Conversations that challenge harmful norms

Because online abuse is real-world abuse.
