The UK government has just announced a major overhaul of the home-selling process - and we couldn't agree more with the direction of travel.
Just like the UK the wasted time and costs here in Guernsey are only too evident.
The system needs to change. We see and feel the pain, upset and frustrations on a regular basis!
Central to the planned UK reforms is the introduction of mandatory 'sales packs' - upfront information prepared by the sellers and their estate agents before a property even hits the market.
Guernsey's conveyancing process is different, but the principle translates perfectly. The more a buyer knows upfront, the more confident they are. The more prepared a seller is, the smoother the sale. We've always advocated this - and we think in Guernsey it should be a standard part of the home selling process.
We hope this signals a wider shift in how property transactions are approached. Guernsey needs to take note and look to implement similar reforms as soon as possible.
Up to four weeks could be cut off the time it takes to complete a house purchase under new plans revealed by the government, which also aims to reduce the number of unwelcome surprises that can come with buying a property.
