We've noticed a lot of discussion around fuel prices recently, particularly as crude oil prices have fallen back to levels seen before the recent Middle East conflict.

While crude oil prices are an important part of the picture, it's important to understand that forecourt fuel prices are driven more directly by the cost of refined products such as petrol and diesel. Although wholesale petrol and diesel prices have also fallen in recent weeks, they have not yet returned to the levels seen before the conflict began.

This distinction between crude oil prices and refined fuel prices is often overlooked, but it plays a significant role in determining the prices customers see at the pump.

As always, ATF remains committed to providing competitive fuel prices across Guernsey. We continually monitor the market and will reduce prices whenever market conditions allow us to do so.

We also want to be completely transparent: price reductions may appear to happen more gradually than the increases experienced at the start of the conflict. This is because the rise in wholesale fuel costs was both rapid and significant, whereas the subsequent decline has been more measured. As the graph below demonstrates, wholesale prices increased much faster than they are currently falling.
