Establishing your candidacy for a role relies heavily on your ability to establish dialogue during an interview.

As much as possible, ask open-ended questions and avoid asking questions that require a yes or no response.

Whether you're curating your resume, filling out a job application, or making a case for your own hiring at a job, honesty is crucial and a prerequisite, and here is why;

■ Regardless of your skills, expertise and unique competencies, Employers or Recruiters above all else are looking for someone they can trust, and if you kick off your application with a lie, you drastically limit your chances of being hired.

■ A background check will discover any lies about your record. It's important to come clean in your application if you've been convicted of a crime. Honesty is surely the best policy . There is a possibility that the crime on your record may or may not cost you the job, but lying about it surely will.

■ There is a high probability that you may be asked to speak about skills you don’t really have. Worst case scenario, you could also face a forgery or fraud conviction if you're discovered depending on the gravity of your lie.
