Community Engagement at Mosi Zongo

Hon. Anthony Ziniel, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Nandom Municipality has engaged with residents of Mosi Zongo following an incident in which a community member was knocked down by a motorcycle.

During the engagement, the residents raised concerns about the safety of children and pedestrians crossing the road, noting the absence of speed ramps to slow down motorists. They explained that, in response, a local speed ramp was erected by community members but was later destroyed by another section of the community. This led to the matter being reported to the MCE for redress.

In his remarks, the MCE pledged to support the community with a temporal road ramps ("Roap Ramps") as an interim measure while also engaging the Urban Roads Department to construct durable concrete ramps. He further emphasized the Assembly’s commitment to educating and cautioning road users on proper riding practices, observing speed limits, and the mandatory use of helmets and riding mirrors.

The MCE also expressed concern about unsafe riding behaviors, including instances of motorcyclists riding without lights at night, which pose a risk of accidents. He assured residents that the police would strictly enforce the law and cautioned that the Assembly would not intervene when offenders are apprehended. He also appealed to community elders not to interfere in police operations, a plea which the elders welcomed and pledged to support.

The engagement ended with assurances from the MCE that the road ramps would be in place by Friday, with further updates to be provided if delays occur. The Municipal Police Command also pledged their support in maintaining peace and ensuring safety in the Nandom Municipality.
