Today, we celebrate Sir David Attenborough on his 100th birthday - storyteller whose voice has helped generations see the natural world with wonder, curiosity and care.

For more than seven decades, his work has brought science into living rooms across the world, making evolution, biodiversity, ecosystems and climate change easier to understand. His documentaries did more than show the beauty of nature; they helped people recognise why it matters, and why it must be protected.

As the world faces biodiversity loss, climate change and growing pressure on ecosystems, his legacy is a reminder that knowledge must lead to care, and care must lead to action.

Look up at the night sky and it feels endless.

But here’s a surprising truth. Earth may actually hold more trees than our entire galaxy holds stars.

A landmark 2015 study published in Nature estimated that our planet has around 3 trillion trees, while astronomers place the number of stars in the Milky Way at roughly 100 to 400 billion.

Which means the forests rooted in Earth’s soil may outnumber the stars lighting up our galaxy
