Extended breastfeeding 07/10/2020

We all know that breast milk is best for babies due to the vast nutrients it offers babies, however 'extended' breastfeeding (breastfeeding after 12 months) can offer a whole host of benefits to toddlers who are learning new skills day by day and of course can keep mums health in check also! Providing only 15oz of breastmilk can provide toddlers with 94% of their vitamin B12 requirement, 75% of their vitamin A requirement and 60% of their vitamin C requirement to name just a few.

Extended breastfeeding If you can, continue to breastfeed for up to 2 years and beyond. Read about the benefits of extended breastfeeding for you and your baby.

The onset of sleep apnea typically occurs aged 35-54, however, it can affect people of all ages. Although there can be a range of reasons why someone would develop sleep apnea, the condition occurs as the muscles in the throat and tongue become relaxed and block the airways. Due to the high level of cases that go undiagnosed in Ireland, we encourage you to visit your GP if you have any of the symptoms associated with OSA.

We all know that smoking harms your health, however in patients with sleep apnea it is even more important to kick the habit. By smoking, you increase the inflammation and retain more fluid in your throat and upper airway. Once your body experiences ni****ne withdrawals overnight, your body may experience an increase in sleep apneas due to the 'rebound effect'.
