Not all fostering looks the same. Here's what you need to know.
There isn't one way to foster. Depending on your life, your home, and what you feel ready for, there's likely a fostering that fits, and we'll always help you figure out which one that is.
🧡Short-term fostering can last from a single night to two years. It's the most common route, and it's often where people start.
🧡Long-term fostering is for children who can't return to their birth family. It's a more permanent commitment, and for the right carer, one of the most meaningful things you can do.
🧡Respite care means providing short breaks for other foster carers. A few days, a week, sometimes longer. It's a quieter form of fostering, but the impact is real.
🧡Specialist fostering involves additional training and support. This includes caring for children with additional needs and parent-and-child placements where a young parent and their baby are fostered together.
Wherever you're starting from, the conversation begins with a question. What does your life look like, and what might be possible within it?
We're here to help you work that out. No pressure, no rush.

🌈 June in our Five Rivers Fostering Calendar 🌈
This month's artwork, created by one of our talented young people, is a beautiful reminder that brighter days are always ahead.
As we head into June and exam season begins for many young people, we love the message of hope, resilience and positivity captured in this colourful design.
June is also Pride Month, a time to celebrate diversity, inclusion and the importance of creating spaces where everyone feels valued, respected and supported for who they are.
Thank you to the young artist who helped bring our calendar to life. 💜

As well as taking part in building challenges and activities, young people will have the opportunity to share their ideas and experiences as part of our Youth Advisory Group, helping us ensure young people's voices remain at the heart of what we do.
Places are limited, so please be sure to reserve your place. DM more information.
We can't wait to see what amazing creations everyone comes up with! 💛

When people think about fostering, they often picture one kind of family and one kind of experience.
But fostering can look very different depending on what a child needs at that moment in their life.
For some children, it’s a safe place to stay for a few nights during a crisis. For others, it’s a longer-term home where they can settle, grow, and feel part of everyday family life.
Some foster carers support brothers and sisters to stay together. Some provide respite care, offering planned short breaks that support children and other foster families. Some care for children with additional needs, with extra training and support around them. Some support young parents and their babies.
No two children are the same, and no two foster families are the same either.
What matters most is being able to offer warmth, patience, and a home where a child can begin to feel safe again.
If fostering is something you’ve been thinking about, we’re always happy to have a conversation.
“Whether you’re just thinking about fostering or ready to begin your application, our Online Information Evenings are a great way to learn more in a relaxed and welcoming space.” 💛
In this video, Mary, one of our social workers, shares what you can expect from our monthly Online Information Evenings, including hearing from our team, listening to the experiences of foster carers, and having the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.
📅 Our next Online Information Evening takes place on June 9th 8PM

There are a lot of myths around foster care, and they stop many people from even exploring it.
You don’t need to be married, own a big house, or have children of your own to foster. What matters most is being able to offer a safe, stable and caring home for a child.
If you’ve ever quietly thought about fostering, but weren’t sure whether you’d “fit”, it’s always worth having a conversation.
Contact our team for an informal chat. We’ll answer any questions you have, talk honestly about the process, and help demystify some of the common myths around fostering.
