The exhibition examines Irish cultural history through the exploration of aviation- and tourism-related graphic design. It focuses on the 1940s through to the 1960s, a period that marked the golden era of international aviation expansion.

"You can judge the aims and aspirations of a society at any point in time, just by looking at the advertising,” Dr Linda King explains to Eleanor Flegg of Irish Independent.

“It shows how we feel about ourselves, rather than what we say. The posters show the desire for Ireland to tell another story about itself."

New Exhibition

Come Fly With Me: Aviation, Tourism and Irish Design examines Irish cultural history through the exploration of aviation- and tourism-related graphic design. It focuses on the 1940s to the 1960s, a period that marked the golden era of international aviation expansion.

On display will be a wide range of tourism ephemera and original sketches from the Museum's collection, alongside loans from national cultural institutions, the families of designers, and members of the public who responded to a call for material. Many of these items are being displayed publicly for the first time.
