A beautiful review of my Shamanic Childbirth Preparation Class from a very powerful woman and her incredible birth team.

♦️ When Emma came to see me last year, she told me she would be freebirthing her third child (after two very traumatic birth in the medical system here in Ireland). She asked if i would attend as her doula. While I didn't feel it was right for me to support a birth without a midwife present, I was instantly in awe of Emma's quiet confidence - in her path, her informed entrance into freebirth and her quest to empower herself, her partner Sean and her friend Kierah in a holistic and practical way.

❤️ Over 3 hours we spent a wonderful evening connecting the birth team, setting intentions with breath and visualisation, sharing and releasing any fears around birth, learning about the physiology of labour for those who had never birthed/ witnessed a birth.

📍We shared massage, counterpressure, labour positions and ways to quietly, intuitively support Emma through the waves of contractions. Maximising both natural pain relief, and the oxytocin to let her fully relax once contractions subside.

💜Emma and her birth team were incredible. She knew intuitively the day she would birth her son, and the birth was as she wanted it to be: at home, safe and natural. I don't say this to advocate for freebirth, but to remind us all that informed, in tune women surrounded by support simply birth better. In a world that places medicalisation before the mother, I think a doula or a holistic, informative whole birtj preparation are no longer optional extras, but vital to how you feel about yourself and your experience.

💙Whether you birth at home, in a hospital or in a a field. Most midwives and doctors care for women beautifully, but the reality of a de-humanising, burdened systems mean far too many traumas, far too many interventions, far too many cascading issues that affect how women feel about themselves and their births. Let's remember the inner power a woman carries to birth. Let's empower women with childbirth preparation that looks at mind, body and soul. Lets be practical, lets care deeply. She is the unspoken knowing in the room; guiding you through not just the physiological stages of labour but the deep waves of sensation and emotion that come with letting go and welcoming a new life into your family.
