Why does the world connect “doves” with “peace”? Nowhere in the Bible do the words peace and dove show up in the same verse. Yet the iconic picture of a dove with a branch in its beak is deeply rooted in our minds as a symbol of peace.

The Dove of Salvation

This symbol harkens back to the first time a dove shows up in the Tanakh. Noah had been floating on the waters of the flooded earth and when the time was right he took action:

Genesis 8:7-12

After forty days Noah opened the window he had made in the ark and sent out a raven. It kept flying back and forth until the waters had dried up from the earth.

Then Noah sent out a dove [ha-yonah] to see if the waters had receded from the surface of the ground. But the dove [ha-yonah] found no place to rest her foot, and she returned to him in the ark, because water still covered the surface of the whole earth. So he reached out his hand and brought her back inside the ark.

Noah waited seven more days and again sent out the dove [ha-yonah] from the ark. And behold, the dove [ha-yonah] returned to him in the evening with a freshly plucked olive leaf in her beak. So Noah knew that the waters had receded from the earth.

And Noah waited seven more days and sent out the dove [ha-yonah] again, but this time she did not return to him.

This dove brought Good News… the news that they were saved. She is an emblem of Salvation because humans could live on the earth once again, as they were meant to. This was a sign of completion, a sign of peace. God had restored and redeemed His people.

At the end of the day are like a job interview and making the selection to find the best fit for your available position takes work. Then you still have to pass the 90 day probationary period before handing out the insurance package and the 401k options. Then you both still have to do your with all of the responsibilities the position comes along with for it to workout long term. After that you still have to advance to the living together stage 😂, travel stage, finances stage, medical issues stage, or dealing with kids/family which is a legit pass or fail based on how you both handle stressers. I once felt like I could generalize that there were no good men, which was the wrong thing to do. I met during her first tour and then worked on myself to evaluate what I was contributing to what was working out analyzing all the reasons why my relationships weren’t going the distance. Once I got to a place of honesty with myself I made behavioral corrections and put rules in place for myself to follow. Then boom outta no where - the perfect blind date walks in - and guess what?? He had done all his own work (fancy that) on himself the same way I had. He understood his own responsibilities for his past and we both shared openly about who we are and what the desires of our hearts were. Our growth created the most amazing opportunity for a successful partnership with outstanding communication. Our expectations are not based on emotions, past gender roles, traumas or what we learned from our parents! That s**t hits different! Kinda like a necessary slap upside the head. Listen longer and do s**t differently than you have always done. Whether the person is male or female or there is never another person does not matter - who you are at the end of the day and how you think, feel, speak and act is all that does! Handle the whole table and not just your “side”. Two 100%’s are way better doing life together than two people trying to only do their half or just operate at 50%. **t
