Breastfeeding and Lactation.
Lactation is the process of producing and releasing milk from the mammary glands in your breasts . When your baby suckles , it stimulates nerves that tell your body to release prolactin and oxytocin . Oxytocin causes muscle contractions that push out the milk of the alveoli through the milk ducts and prolactin causes the alveoli to make milk .

World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated every year in the first week of August to spread awareness about the importance of breastfeeding. This year’s theme is “Step Up for Breastfeeding: Educate and Support” highlighting the role of breastfeeding as the key to sustainable development strategies post-pandemic, as it improves nutrition, ensures food security, and reduces inequalities between and within countries.
