Police Register Case After Apple Orchard Vandalized in Chadoora

Budgam, May 30, KNT: Scores of Italy apple trees were allegedly cut down by unidentified miscreants in the Rangeen Kultreh area of Chadoora in central Kashmir’s Budgam district, prompting police to register a case and launch an investigation.

The incident has caused concern among orchard owners and local inhabitants, as horticulture remains a major source of livelihood in the area and damage to fruit-bearing trees often results in significant economic loss.

Local sources said the miscreants targeted an apple orchard in Rangeen Kultreh and cut down scores of Italy apple trees, causing extensive damage.

The act came to light after locals and orchard owners noticed the damaged trees and informed the concerned authorities.

Police have registered a case in connection with the incident and initiated investigation to identify those involved and ascertain the circumstances behind the orchard damage.

The extent of the losses caused to the orchard was not immediately known.

Crackdown on Narcotics: Kulgam Police Attach Properties of Drug Peddlers Worth Over β‚Ή1 Crore

Kulgam, May 30: In a major crackdown on narcotics-related activities, Kulgam Police have attached two residential properties belonging to alleged drug peddlers, with a combined market value of over β‚Ή1 crore, as part of their sustained campaign against the drug menace in the district.

According to a police statement, a residential house valued at approximately β‚Ή52 lakh belonging to Imtiyaz Ahmad Mir, son of Mohammad Maqbool Mir, resident of Kujjar Frisal, Yaripora, has been attached. The property was identified as having been acquired through proceeds generated from the illegal trade of drugs and narcotics. The attachment was made in connection with FIR No. 10/2021 registered at Police Station Yaripora.

In another action, a single-storey residential house valued at around β‚Ή49 lakh belonging to Feroze Ahmad Khan, son of Ghulam Ahmad Khan, resident of Munnad, Tehsil Yaripora, was also attached. Police said the property was similarly acquired through proceeds from illicit drug trafficking and has been attached in connection with FIR No. 72/2023 registered at Police Station Behibagh.

The attachment proceedings were carried out under the provisions of Section 68-F of the NDPS Act through the competent authority SAFEMA. The process was executed in the presence of a duly constituted police team and an Executive Magistrate, ensuring full compliance with legal procedures and maintaining transparency.

Kulgam Police reiterated its firm commitment to eliminating the drug menace by targeting not only offenders but also the financial assets generated through narcotics trafficking.
