Indian cities don’t fail because of rain.
They fail because the same infrastructure mistakes keep repeating.
Glad to contribute our perspective to this feature on why cities across India continue struggling with flooding, waterlogging, and drainage collapse after just a few hours of rainfall.
What we are seeing in cities like Bengaluru and Gurgaon is no longer just a monsoon issue.
It reflects deeper concerns around:
urban planning
stormwater drainage
disappearing natural water channels
and reactive infrastructure systems
We discuss smart cities, iconic skylines, and rapid urban growth — but resilience planning still remains an afterthought. A future-ready city should not become inaccessible after predictable rainfall.
This conversation needs to move beyond temporary fixes.
