Report on Residential Workshop for Supporting Mentor Teachers
Venue: SICUN, Assam Lingzey
Date: 5th – 6th May 2025

A two-day residential workshop for around 60 Supporting Mentor Teachers was held on 5th and 6th May 2025 at the Sikkim Institute of Capacity Building (SICUN), Assam Lingzey. The workshop was organized by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Education Department, Government of Sikkim.
The primary aim of the workshop was to build the capacities of Supporting Mentor Teachers, who will play a vital role in strengthening academic support at the grassroots level. These teachers have been carefully selected from each Block Administrative Centre (BAC) from the pool of existing mentor teachers. Their key responsibility will be to assist the State Resource Group (SRG) members in conducting cluster-level workshops and providing on-ground academic mentorship and facilitation.
The workshop focused on developing leadership in mentoring, effective facilitation techniques, classroom observation skills, and strategies for delivering hands-on training and support to fellow educators. Through interactive sessions, discussions, and group work, participants were equipped with tools and knowledge to fulfill their expanded roles effectively.
The workshop was coordinated by Mr. Rajiv Philip, Deputy Director, SCERT, with support from Jodo Gyan, New Delhi.
The event concluded with a reflection session in which participants shared their takeaways and expressed their readiness to collaborate with SRGs in enhancing teaching-learning practices at the cluster level across the state.
