What does respect at the workplace truly mean?
For Women’s Day 2026, we asked leaders across industries to answer just one question.
Their answers were powerful. Honest. And deeply relevant for every organisation today.

🎥 Watch the voices behind .

Over the past week, the NoMeansNo Foundation Women’s Day Campaign 2026 brought together leaders from law, corporate organisations, public service and social impact to share what respect really looks like at work.

Because workplace culture doesn’t change through policies alone.
It changes when leaders speak up.
As we celebrate International Women’s Day 2026, we hope these voices inspire organisations everywhere to build workplaces where dignity, safety and equality are non-negotiable.

Respect is not a slogan. It is a culture.

Happy Women’s Day 2026.
Grateful to the leaders who participated in the campaign

Respect is a habit, a habit of making everyone seen, valued and supported.
A habit is something that is natural to us or if not natural, we make efforts to practise with intentionality till it becomes one.

As you may agree, habits cannot be altered as per one's mood, situation, circumstances, vibe etc. It shall be practiced irrespective of it all.

Respect, for me, is one such habit which is the fundamental basis of every relationship, every transaction, every interaction, every activity that we do. It is something that we carry with us closely everywhere anywhere irrespective of whoever we are with. It is given equally to everybody without any exceptions.

It can be expressed through words or simple acts of kindness.

At the workplace, respect is what binds teams together. It can be as simple as stepping in when the team needs you and stepping out recognizing the need for the team to grow, allowing them with space to showcase their individual potential.

When respect becomes the foundation of a team, it operates as a fully-functional cohesive unit. The manager shall take a genuine interest in knowing the team enabling them with a perspective to gauge when to step in or out. Other members of the team shall know that they can speak up and shall be heard.

Creating a respectful workplace needs intentional investment on one’s part to accept, acknowledge and act without any assumptions and exceptions. A little respect shall certainly go a long way.

Consistency Creates Credibility

For Preeti Negi, respect is built in repetition.

In her experience, policies are easy to draft and values are easy to articulate. What truly defines culture is how consistently those principles are applied across situations, hierarchies, and relationships.

She believes credibility is earned when standards do not shift based on designation or influence. The moment consequences vary by title, culture begins to erode. When recognition depends more on visibility than merit, trust quietly declines.

To her, respect means being predictable in fairness. It means integrity does not fluctuate with convenience or pressure. Due process must remain steady, even when decisions are uncomfortable.
Over time, consistency transforms written guidelines into lived culture.
