Innovation in Healthcare: Its Dimensions
Environmental and operational dimensions are the two main facets of healthcare innovation.
These factors encourage or have an impact on how innovation is introduced in healthcare organizations. The improvement of clinical results, efficiency, and efficacy, an aging population, a nursing shortage, patient happiness, profitability, patient safety, enhanced quality, and cost control are all part of the operational component. Physician acceptability, organizational culture, regulatory approval, and partnerships and collaborations are all part of the environmental factor.
The operational dimensions are located inside the inner band, and the environmental dimensions are located on the outer band of the dimensions of healthcare innovation.
The Environmental Dimensions (ED) comprise partnership and collaboration, organizational leadership, organizational culture, regulatory approval, physician acceptance, and the complexity of innovation.
The Operational Dimensions (OD) of healthcare innovation are similar in that they cover patient satisfaction, profitability, effectiveness, efficiency, patient safety, an aging population, productivity, cost containment, labor shortage, clinical results, and quality.

Healthcare stakeholders (patients, patient advocacy groups, healthcare organizations, doctors, other healthcare professionals, etc.) have started many of the innovations in the industry.
Sometimes, in an effort to address healthcare issues and difficulties, the government forces the need for reform upon healthcare organizations.
The next hurdle is figuring out whether the need can be supplied internally or by a healthcare innovation business once it has been recognized. If the innovation comes from within the healthcare system, it is evaluated, changed, and then adopted. If the need does not come from the healthcare organization itself, a healthcare technology firm that develops, tests, and markets the technology to healthcare organizations fills the gap.
When a healthcare organization makes an imperfect attempt at innovation, a healthcare innovation firm may take that attempt, improve it, and market it to other healthcare organizations.
Understanding the internal innovation process within a healthcare organization, such as a hospital, nursing home, home health agency, or managed care firm, is crucial. These businesses often do not have the luxury of a sizable research and development division, so they are forced to rely on the inborn brilliance and inventiveness of their own personnel and work teams.
