National girl child day is an initiative t support and promote girls in India. We're happy about it. But...
We were all excited to know about the new s*x ratio released few months ago. 1020 female for every 1000 male. That sounds amazing. However, The National Family Health Survey, the source of the very own data, flags that the s*x ratio at birth continues to be lower than expected. So
If you think s*x selection is history and parents don't discriminate nowadays. Research and statistics may disagree with you here.
Amitabh Kundu, research advisor at Oxfam says and we quote, “It has been observed that in backward states and districts, the female-male ratio is better as medical facilities are yet to become easily available. In districts where these are available, s*x determination goes up and s*x ratio declines.”
The ancient mentality of relating daughters with burden and sons with opportunity, is still quite relevant in the so called modern India.
While there's too much negative space for girls in the country, there's more positivity and progressive disposition! A lot of parents continue to break the societal constructs of restricting their daughters.
If you work for gender equality, or know anyone who does, kindly reach out to us and we'd love to do a project together. If you know any relevant influencer, be a charm and tag then in the comments.
Thank you,

Food, clothing, and shelter are often referred to as basic needs of human life. This is when we take air and water for granted. A psychological phenomenon called the hot hand fallacy, a cognitive social bias, explains this really well. As humanity was always equipped with water and air before and during my existence, it shall continue the same way in future as well.
We spoke to Mr. Vinod Bodhankar, the Jal Rishi Samman awardee and the visionary behind Sagar Mitra Abhiyan- a clean ocean initiative which in a larger philosophical sense is a nonviolence movement (you're about to find that out).
Started in 2013, Sagar Mitra Abhiyan is a one of its kind ocean conservation movement that one can contribute towards without going to the ocean. Secondary school students till class 9 are trained and motivated to collect dry plastic waste in a bag from their home. These students deposit these bags to their schools once every month. They are discouraged from collecting the waste from anywhere outside their home. Even there, they only collect the dry plastic waste. These students are Sagar Mitra, meaning ocean friends, and not waste collectors. This movement gives them a responsibility for their own waste and not others’ waste. A plastic bag on an average can kill 50 fishes along with a lot of damage to the plants under water. Nearly 70% of the oxygen comes from the oceans and we all know we get water from rain only because of the oceans. So the health of the ocean is much more important than most of us realise right now. With Sagar Mitra Abhiyan, Mr Bodhankar, a proud cosmo-sapien, projects to save life below water, thereby saving humanity on land.
