RTO to give awards to ‘good’ auto, cab drivers
MUMBAI: The Andheri RTO on Friday announced special awards for auto and taxi drivers. The drivers will be awarded following union nominations on criteria such as honesty, willingness to help those in need such as accident victims, and for encouraging their children to pursue higher studies.

The awards were constituted as part of the RTO's 'Gandhigiri' initiative to reform drivers hauled up for impoliteness, meter-tampering and refusal of service. Deputy RTO Bharat Kalaskar said, "Apart from the felicitation, we will also give drivers certificates and special family health packages. They will also be included in our 'good list' and will get preference when they visit the RTO for any work." "Recently, the daughter of an auto driver topped the national CA exam. We want to facilitate such drivers,"an official added.
