Paddybird!!!
We saw this Indian pond heron (Ardeola grayii) perched atop a tree branch near the orchid garden . This resort is so beautifully designed with greenery all around, gardens and water bodies, we felt like we were almost living in a forest, felt very close to nature!

Sundried!!!
Spotted this Oriental darter (Anhinga melanogaster) perched comfortably drying its wings under the sun on our way from Alleppy to Fort Kochi.
Because of the way it hunts fish while being submerged and only it’s slender neck being visible above water, it’s also known as snakebird.
And also because of this type of hunting they are usually found drying their wings.

Spotted this magnificent butterfly from almost 50 feet away while on our walk at .The resort has a butterfly garden but this guy was interested in orchids probably (yes, the resort had an orchid garden too!).
I was captivated by the size of this butterfly, probably the biggest one I have ever seen. This particular species have a wing span of 12-15 cms and are the fourth largest butterfly in India.
The Blue Mormon, is a large swallowtail butterfly found in south India and Sri Lanka. It is the "state butterfly" of Maharashtra!!!
