Today is celebrated as Dol Purnima or Dol Jatra at WEST BENGAL,ORRISA and ASSAM as on this day Lord Krishna and his beloved Radha, richly adorned and besmeared with colored powder (Abir in Bengali) whereas at North India today is celebrations of Holika Dahan- the killing of Holika in order to save Prahlad, a devotee of Lord Vishnu and thus Holi celebration begins.
The festival becomes all the more significant for Bengalis, because this is also the birthday of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu .
