April 16 marks Kurdistan Environment Day. Eco Vision Organization - EVO plays a leading role in environmental protection across the Kurdistan Region, actively advancing biodiversity conservation, sustainable water resource management, deforestation mitigation, plastic waste reduction, and the remediation of land contaminated by explosive remnants of war (ERW).

Environmental degradation, ranging from the disposal of industrial and synthetic waste to large-scale deforestation and contamination from armed conflict, constitutes a primary driver of climate change and ecosystem destabilization. These processes contribute to soil contamination. Consequently, extensive land areas undergo ecological degradation, losing their natural resilience and becoming unsuitable for agriculture, habitation, and sustainable livelihoods.

Environmental remediation and ecosystem restoration must be central components of any comprehensive response to these challenges. As EVO, we remain committed to identifying and implementing evidence-based, sustainable interventions to mitigate environmental impacts. We call upon all stakeholders to undertake coordinated, decisive action to safeguard our natural resources, ensuring a resilient, sustainable, and environmentally secure future for generations to come.

١٦-٤ ڕۆژی ژینگەی کوردستانە. ڕێکخراوی ئیکۆ ڤیژن پێشەنگە لە داکۆکیکردن لە ژینگەی هەرێمی کوردستان و پاڵپشتییەکی بەهێزە بۆ مانەوەی جۆرەکانی زیندەوەران، پاکڕاگرتنی سەرچاوەکانی ئاو، ڕێگریکردن لە بڕینەوەی دارەکان، نەهێشتنی پاشماوەی پلاستیک، و پاککردنەوەی خاک لە پاشماوەی تەقەمەنییەکان.

تێکدانی سروشت، لە فڕێدانی پاشماوەی ماددە دەستکردەکان و ڕووتاندنەوەی دارستانەکانەوە بگرە تا دەگاتە پاشماوەی جەنگ و تەقەمەنییەکان، هۆکاری سەرەکین بۆ تێکچوونی کەشوهەوا. ئەم کارانە خاک پیس دەکەن، ڕێڕەوی ئاو دەگرن و زیان بە ڕووەک و ئاژەڵ دەگەیەنن؛ بەمەش ڕووبەرێکی زۆری زەوییەکانمان سروشتی خۆیان لەدەست دەدەن و بۆ چاندن و ژیان گونجاو نابن.

پاککردنەوەی ژینگە لەم گرفتانە دەبێتە بەشێکی سەرەکی لە چارەسەرەکان. ئێمە وەکو ڕێکخراوی ئیکۆ ڤیژن کار دەکەین و بەردەوام دەبین لە دۆزینەوەی ڕێگەی گونجاو بۆ کەمکردنەوەی ئەم زیانانە بۆ سەر ژینگەی خاکەکەمان. داوا لە هەمووان دەکەین هەنگاوی بوێر و یەکگرتوو بنێن بۆ پاراستنی وڵاتەکەمان تا پێکەوە نیشتمانێکی پاک و ئاوەدان بۆ نەوەکانی داهاتوو جێبهێڵین.

🌍 The International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action

, explosive remnants of war ( ), and improvised explosive devices ( ) continue to threaten lives, especially those of children. Even years after conflicts end, these hidden dangers remain in communities across Iraq, including the Kurdistan Region, causing death, injury, and lasting trauma.

Eco Vision Organization - EVO is committed to protecting communities from these threats. We work to raise awareness, sensitize and engage local populations on safe behaviors, and mobilize resources for mine clearance operations and explosive ordnance risk education ( ) programs.

On this International Day, we call on all Member States to uphold the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention and urge those that have withdrawn to rejoin. Preserving these instruments is essential to protect civilians and prevent further tragedies.

EVO echoes the UN’s 2026 message “Invest in Peace, Invest in Mine Action.” EVO continues to advocate for accelerated mine clearance, expanded victim assistance and rehabilitation, strengthened EORE programs, reduction of weapons stockpiles, and ultimately a mine-free world.

♦ لە هەر شوێنێک مین و تەقەمەنی و پاشماوەی جەنگیت بینی، دەستکاری مەکە، لێی دوور بکەوەرەوە و پەیوەندی بکە بە ژمارە(١٨٢).

37 years after the , toxic agents continue to contaminate soil and air, resulting in ongoing health and environmental consequences. Persistent chemical pollutants continue to impact the lives of thousands of people in the region, with many suffering from long-term illnesses, birth defects, and environmental degradation.

Eco Vision Organization - EVO appreciated that has made commitments to various international treaties aimed at eliminating chemical weapons. Iraq is a state party to the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), which bans the use, production, and stockpiling of chemical weapons. Additionally, Iraq has ratified the United Nations Chemical Weapons Convention, reinforcing its commitment to the international prohibition of chemical weapons.

EVO urges all nations, including Iraq, to fully cooperate with the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) ensuring the complete implementation of the to protect humanity and the environment from the devastating consequences of chemical warfare.

EVO also calls for full accountability for those responsible for the chemical attack on Halabja, emphasizing the need for justice and the recognition of the immense suffering experienced by the people.
