#Repost @britainpalestineproject with @let.repost • • • • • • On this day - October 25th, the anniversary of the fourth letter in the McMahon–Hussein Correspondence (1915) - we reflect on the moment when Britain’s wartime promises to the Arabs set in motion a chain of events that would shape the future of Palestine. That letter, offering support for an independent Arab state in return for help against the Ottoman Empire, was filled with vague promises and conflicting intentions - setting the stage for decades of misunderstanding and injustice. At the Beyond Borders Festival at Traquair House, we sat down with Roger Spooner, one of the co-founders of the Britain Palestine Project, to talk about how a chance encounter in Jordan changed everything. Roger and his wife Dr Monica Spooner discovered the McMahon–Hussein Correspondence - Britain’s wartime promise to the Arabs - and began uncovering the deeper story of broken promises, the Balfour Declaration, and Britain’s role in shaping Palestine’s fate.
