Happy New Month of June

This month, we reflect on the theme:

“Anchoring Capacity in a Changing World: The Power of Collaboration and Systems Leadership.”

In a rapidly changing world, grassroots organizations are being called not only to respond to challenges — but to lead through them.

And leadership today is not built in isolation.

It is built through:
🌍 collaboration over competition
🤝 strong systems and partnerships
💡 shared learning and collective action
🌱 investing in people and organizational resilience

Anchoring capacity means strengthening the foundations that allow communities and grassroots leaders to adapt, sustain impact, and lead meaningful change for the long term.

This month, may we continue building stronger ecosystems, stronger organizations, and stronger futures — together.

As we close Mental Health Awareness Month, we carry with us not just conversations… but dreams.

From our past Wall of Dreams, Marlene Kawira Kinyua, Team Lead & Founder Afrikala Art- Kenya shared a powerful vision for her community:

“Create a country where young people have access to resources and mental health support that enables them to live dignified, sustainable livelihoods.”

This is more than a dream.
It is a call for a future where young people are not forced to survive in silence.
A future where mental health support is accessible, safe, and community-centered.
A future where dignity, opportunity, and wellbeing go hand in hand.

As we end this month, we want to hear from you:

✨ What is your dream for your community when it comes to mental health?

Fundraising is not magic. It’s strategy, relationships, teamwork — and storytelling.

A few reminders for grassroots organizations building their fundraising journey

→ Don’t move without a plan.
Your fundraising strategy should align with your vision, mission, and long-term goals. Not every opportunity is the right opportunity.

→ Fundraising is about people.
Relationships matter. Ask yourself: who should know about your work? What spaces should you be in? Research, prepare, and show up with intention.

→ Not every donor is your donor.
Focus matters. Build connections with supporters who genuinely align with your mission and values.

→ Fundraising is a team sport.
It’s not only the founder’s responsibility. Your board members, volunteers, employees, finance, communications, partnerships, M&E, and programs teams all play a role in building trust and mobilizing support.

→ Your story is your power.
People support movements they believe in. Inspire others with your vision, your impact, and your “why.”

Fundraising is not just about asking for money. It’s about building a community that believes in the future you’re creating
