MAJIBU YA M'BUNGE WA MSAMBWENI Hon. Feisal Abdallah Bader KWA MUWAKILISHI WA WANAWAKE KWALE Zuleikha Juma Hassan

STATEMENT IN RESPONSE TO THE ALLEGATIONS BY THE KWALE COUNTY WOMEN REPRESENTATIVE

This statement is written in response to a social media post made by the Kwale County Women Rep via her page "Zuleikha Hassan Juma" containing malicious and misconceived allegations with the intention to deceive the members of the public and moreso the residents of Msambweni Constituency regarding my meeting with the Cabinet Secretary for Mining and Petroleum Hon. John Munyes yesterday.

First and foremost, issues regarding mining are well outlined in the Mining Act 2016, the formation of CDACs is within the law, the membership of the CDACs is within the Law, the Mining Act does not only apply to Kwale County, it applies to any mining activities within the territory of the Republic of Kenya. According to the Law, as contained in the Mining Act, the membership of the CDAC comprises the area Governor, the area MP, the area MCA, Youth Representatives, Representation of persons with Disabilities among others. The Women Representative's Deputy Party Leader (ODM) who is also the Mombasa County Governor H.E Hassan Ali Joho is a member of the Base Titanium CDAC. I had a meeting with the CS for Mining in my capacity as the area MP for Msambweni Constituency given that there are general community concerns regarding the mining activities by Base Titanium.

There are general concerns regarding compensation of residents, the community development issues resulting from mining activities and the effects of mining activities on the people around the areas where mining takes place, including health and environmental concerns, which formed part of our discussion with the CS.

It is therefore unfortunate that our beloved Women Representative who was elected across the County to represent the issues affecting the people can manufacture imaginations and spread malice all in the name of scoring Political points.

In my view, it is more important that we as elected leaders come together and engage, share ideas and work together for the common good of our people. It is important that we not only speak but also learn from each other as leaders. There comes a time when it more prudent to put aside our political differences and work for the common good. It would be be for the common good that the very able women representative joins hands with the county leadership in solving the issues affecting our people, it is more important that we focus on delivering our promises to the people and building a better and stronger community economic-wise and socially than spend time showing our political differences.

I therefore wish to invite the Kwale County Women Representative to a more sober and constructive conversation on how we can better the lives of our people.
Msambweni and Kwale at large needs leadership that is focused on service delivery to the people. If we are united as leaders we will go far, but if all we do is keep on exchanging political blows with unsubstantiated allegations, we will be letting our people down. IT IS TIME TO WORK FOR OUR PEOPLE.
