ACCESSIBILITY AWARENESS [21ST MAY 2026]
The Ministry of Home Affairs, Crime Prevention, Conflict Resolution and Persons with Disabilities officially launched its Accessibility Awareness Campaign on Thursday at Constitution Park, in observance of Global Accessibility Awareness Day. The initiative is aimed at promoting greater inclusion and accessibility for persons living with disabilities, while encouraging both individual and institutional change. The launch featured participation from the Minister responsible for Persons with Disabilities, the Helen Keller Association for the Blind, the Saint Lucia Autism Society, and several special education centres. Cuba’s ongoing fuel and economic crisis is now placing increasing pressure on the country’s healthcare and sanitation systems, with international officials warning that critical medical treatments are being affected. Following a recent United Nations assessment mission to the island, concerns were raised over the growing humanitarian impact of the oil blockade. Speaking exclusively with Choice TV, the Cuban Ambassador to Saint Lucia outlined how the Cuban government is attempting to manage the situation amid mounting challenges. Cianna Dalsan reports.
TRAUMA-TRAINED [20TH MAY 2026]
Growing concern over child abuse cases and limited access to trained trauma therapists in Saint Lucia has prompted renewed calls for stronger support systems for vulnerable children. In response, the Independent Child Protection Agency, established by Girls of a Feather, is working to provide advocacy and guidance for child victims navigating the legal and social challenges associated with abuse. Founder Chelsea Foster says greater institutional support is urgently needed to better protect and assist children affected by trauma. Shyne Savory reports.
