A simple way to work out this question is:you take the speed 40mph and divide the first number which is 4 by 2...you then multiply your answer to the 40....the answer you get you then add it to the 40 to get the overall stopping distance.....
40(4\2=2)
40 x 2=80(braking distance)
40 +80=120
answer 120feet stopping distance
