A nation's progress demands new leadership, not a return to the same paths that held it back.

Dear Parents and Students,

The upcoming presidential election is a pivotal moment in your lives. While the election may not directly impact me, it concerns me deeply because of all of you. For the past 10 years as a teacher, I have dedicated myself to your success and your future. But now, the future seems uncertain. I believe your parents carry a tremendous responsibility, perhaps more than anyone else in this situation.

I’ve nearly completed all my higher education and reached a stable point in my life. If corruption continues, it won’t affect me immediately—though it might in the long run. Regardless, I’m confident your parents will never stop investing in your education, ensuring you attend classes, even in tough times.

Moreover, I am currently a principal of Sri Lanka’s largest education network, which offers me a degree of job security. During the last economic crisis, I was abroad during the height of the downturn. If another crisis occurs, I could easily return to a foreign country to secure my future. But I am not willing to do that. Every student who has ever been in my class knows how deeply I care for them, how much I love them, and how I constantly pray for their bright future.

I, too, benefited from the public school system for 13 years, funded by your parents’ tax money. As a responsible citizen, I feel a deep obligation to give back to this country. This is the first time I am writing about politics, not to sway anyone, but to encourage you to open your eyes.

I ask every student of mine to think carefully and make a wise, responsible decision in this upcoming election. The future depends on it. Encourage your parents to move beyond traditional party loyalties, to vote for the country, the nation, and your future.
